The transient was discovered on 11th January 2023 at 00:52:29 (MJD 59955.04) by ATLAS as ATLAS23ahs with a discovery magnitude of orange = 17.33. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.019.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with IC1705; a J=11.05 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/SDSS/2MASS/LASR/PS1 catalogues. Its located 8.50" S, 4.59" W (3.4 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 73.4 Mpc(z=0.019) implies a m - M = 34.33.
