The transient was discovered on 3rd January 2023 at 01:57:40 (MJD 59947.08) by ATLAS as ATLAS23adv with a discovery magnitude of orange = 17.51. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.022.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with IC1756; an r=18.42 mag galaxy found in the NED_D/SDSS/PS1 catalogues. Its located 5.25" S, 0.00" E (2.2 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host distance of 87.3 Mpc(z=0.022) implies a m - M = 34.71.
