The transient was discovered on 17th December 2022 at 12:12:19 (MJD 59930.51) by ZTF as ZTF22abzaijw with a discovery magnitude of r = 17.28. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.015.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Supernova

The transient is possibly associated with SDSS J112235.38+204214.1; a J=10.88 mag galaxy found in the SDSS/2MASS/LASR catalogues. Its located 14.60" S, 24.80" W (8.5 Kpc) from the galaxy centre. A host z=0.015 implies a m - M = 34.00.
