The transient was discovered on 30th January 2023 at 09:07:12 (MJD 59974.38) by ASAS-SN as ASASSN-23am with a discovery magnitude of r = 15.40. It was subsequently classified as a SN Ia at z = 0.018.

Sherlock Contextual Classification

Prediction: Nuclear Transient

The transient is synonymous with NGC5784; an r=14.23 mag galaxy found in the NED/NED_D/PS1/LASR catalogues. Its located 0.7" (0.3 Kpc) from the galaxy core. A host distance of 81.6 Mpc(z=0.018) implies a m - M = 34.56.
